I have accepted the position of Business Development Manager at Hitwise in San Francisco. Hitwise provides competitive intelligence through on 165 industries in the online space. Site centric tools like Webtrends and Hitbox provide information about your traffic, what parts of the site are getting the most hits, upstream and downstream click data, some search intelligence and maybe even some demographic/psychographic info. Hitwise does all that for your site AND provides the same information about your competitors.
What taking this job means to you:
I'll start using terms like cash flow positive instead of saying "they make money". I'll say Asia Pac if I'm referring to the Asia Pacific. When asking me the chances of me making it to the ballgame or out to the bar, I'll give you a salesforce probability like "60% likelihood of closing". If you tell me it doesn't really seem worth your while to go hang out on Sunday afternoon, I'll say "oh I see you want me to breakdown the return on investment". If I have to convince you to go golfing on the 23rd and you seem hesitant I'll say "who else needs to be part of the discussion process before we make an ultimmate decision and sign off?".
What it means for me:
Less personal time, probably more curt on the phone and a lot more energy devoted to time management.
I'm super stoked to be part of this company. They obviously have their heads on their shoulders and we offer a product no one can compete with. It feels great to be at a company where everyone on the scale from the newbies to the people here for 3 years give me a genuine answer of being extremely content at being part of this fantastic team.
I'll keep you updated....
