God's work: The Golden State Warriors

Have I ever posted something about sports?  I don't think so. 

Let me tell you why I've been a Debby the D owner regarding fanhood and the pursuit of love for your local team:

*Baseball strike in the 90's
*"Yeah!!! Way to go Barry Bonds!!! Woo hoo he just hit a record breaking home run....wait a second...where was Barry when i got an A (probably B+) in English or completed my first 2 minute headstand?"  No where! he doesn't give a rat's $#! about me. 
*Collective downward spiral of Bay Area Sports in the last 10 years
*Getting older and focusing more on things like job, keeping my man gut down, helping my mom understand why I'm the last of her offspring to be married and produce a grandchild for her enjoyment
*Really not understand the Return on Investment for being a fan

Things are changing though.  The reason pure and simple is the Golden State Warriors.  These guys are one of two teams in the league to have SIX players averaging double digits in scoring.  They were LEADING the league in scoring when they were 1-6 as a team without their second best scorer (Stephen Jackson). 

Besides that you can sense the fun they're having out there, the close tight knitness of the players, and the absolute genius of Don Nelson and how he was able to make a dollar out of 63 cents.  As Stephen Jackson said "it's like playing at the YMCA".  

I used to try to rationalize being a sports fan: "well if i invest my energy into this team and they lose more than they win and if the chances of them winning in the playoffs is small and chances of me getting heartbroken is large...then it's not worth it".  Well screw that philosophy.  That was the problem though with Bay Area sports! They were getting so bad that they made me want to rationalize being a fan!

What inspired the change in me wasn't any more thinking or analyzing.  It took much more than that.  It took a team that wants to be playing out there, that wants to be playing with the people they are playing with, for the coach they are playing for, and for the fans that they are playing with as well.

But ultimately I want to watch a team that has players say it's fun cause "it's like playing at the YMCA."
