Stage over desk job

I just recorded my first songs with Dave Kim (and), world renowned electric violinist, guitarist, keyboardist, beat looper, la de da dee.  I can't express how much energy it's brought to my life.  To have finally accomplished this feat...creating something that is very dear to my heart that I feel is exactly the way it should be produced with beats, undertones and all...man I'm ecstatic to say the least. 

I've been freestyling for about 10 years now and it's been mostly parties, in the car with friends, a wedding, open mic's, impromptu shows and what not...but  this is great.  It was a heavy weight on my shoulders...finding an artistic outlet to channel my individual passions and energies.  I really think we've found an interesting niche with Dave creating beats on the fly and looping them together while I do the same with lyrics.  Because his beats and melodic tempo meshes extremely well with my style we are very in tune with each other and allows for optimized synnergies. 

We're gonna polish things up and then perform in the next couple of months but for now I wanted to share this great new event in my life.

The rock and the stream

You know I used to think I was the most care free guy in the world.  I think it was mostly because of external validation from friends..."Eric's crazy man...that guy is just crazy"..."Eric would do it...Eric would do that".  Not that Eric Jones was ever the talk of the town but I do think you can get a bit delusional by confusing external validations with internal ones.

I asked my ex girlfriend on a scale of one to ten what she would rate me for "care-freeness" or being mentally free.  She gave me a 4.  I was like "What are you talking about...I'm wild...I'm crazy...I do what I want".  But she was right.  I think internally I've had to reconcile that a little and identify where I am on my own psychological solitude. 

I'm probably the happiest I've ever been in my life right now and it's because I've identified areas where I was entrapped on my own mental accord.  Choosing to be in situations where I knew the outcome would be the same or unfavorable for my hedonistic pallete.  Stressing out about many things that I had no control over.  Complaining over things in my life where I should have just taken action.  Not realizing I could choose to be happy in each and every moment of the day.  Foolishly thinking I could control a multitude of factors in life where it's just not possible.

I've become more of a rock in the stream and not the stream.  Don't take this the wrong way.  I'm not more complacent or reactive.  I just realize I am a rock and that the water that does indeed pass, passes with my efforts or not.  Never have I ever felt as in control internally and never have I ever felt as secure knowing that I'm ok with not controlling what I can't control anyway.
